Industrial IoT Electricity Monitor PCB Design

Job ID: 40426660

Budget: $30 – $250 USD

Title: PCB Design for Low-Cost Industrial Electricity Monitoring IoT Device

We are looking for an experienced PCB design / embedded hardware engineer to design a low-cost industrial electricity consumption monitoring device.

The device will be used in an industrial factory environment to monitor electrical parameters and send data to a server through IoT.

Project Goal

We want to develop a compact and reliable PCB for monitoring:

Voltage

Current

Power consumption

Energy consumption / kWh

Power factor, if possible

Basic electrical health/status data

The device may use ESP32 or any suitable low-cost microcontroller, but the final solution must be practical, reliable, and cost-optimized.

Main Requirement

The most important requirement is low total product cost.

The PCB design must be optimized so that:

PCB manufacturing cost stays low

Component cost stays low

Assembly cost stays low

The product can be produced in bulk later

Components should be easily available from suppliers like LCSC / JLCPCB / China-based sources

The design should avoid unnecessary expensive components

Application Environment

This device will be used in an industrial electrical environment, so the design should consider:

Electrical safety

Noise and EMI protection

Stable power supply design

Isolation where necessary

Long-term reliability

Easy installation and maintenance

Protection against voltage fluctuation, surge, and industrial noise

Expected Work

The freelancer should be able to provide:

1. Hardware architecture suggestion

2. Component selection with low-cost alternatives

3. Schematic design

4. PCB layout

5. BOM with cost estimate

6. Gerber files

7. Pick-and-place files

8. Assembly files for PCB manufacturing

9. Basic firmware guidance or sample code

10. Suggestions for calibration and accuracy improvement

Important Notes

Accuracy is important, but the solution must still remain cost-effective.

Please suggest the best sensing method, such as CT clamp, shunt, metering IC, or any other suitable method.

We are open to your technical recommendation if you have already worked on electricity monitoring or energy meter PCB design.

The design should be suitable for future mass production.

We prefer a simple, robust, and practical solution rather than an overcomplicated design.

Please Apply With

When applying, please answer the following:

1. Have you designed any electricity monitoring / energy meter / power monitoring PCB before?

2. Which sensing method do you recommend for a low-cost industrial solution?

3. Can you design the PCB for JLCPCB or similar manufacturing?

4. Can you select components that are available from LCSC or similar suppliers?

5. What will be your estimated design time?

6. Can you share any similar previous work or portfolio?

We are looking for someone who can guide us technically and help us build a low-cost, reliable, industrial-grade IoT electricity monitoring device.
