Project Description:
We need a skilled freelancer experienced with GEM5 simulations and computer architecture to implement a custom LRU insertion policy (LIP_3) for the Last-Level Cache (LLC) and run simulations on specific benchmarks. This project involves specific requirements for modifying the cache policy and analyzing the simulation results.

Project Requirements:

System Configuration:

Configure the GEM5 simulator with a single-core OoO processor setup, following specific baseline system parameters (details provided).
Implement LIP_3 (LRU Insertion Policy):

Modify the GEM5 cache policy to insert new cache blocks at the 3rd position in the LLC's LRU stack, while keeping the eviction and update policies the same as in standard LRU.
Run Simulations on Benchmarks:

Simulate four benchmarks: bzip2, lbm, namd, and gobmk.
Each simulation should include a 50M instruction warm-up followed by a 50M detailed instruction run.
Data Collection and Analysis:

Collect and analyze LLC miss rate, MPKI (misses per kilo instructions), and IPC (instructions per cycle) for both LRU and LIP_3 policies.
Generate Plots and Report:

Provide normalized plots for LLC miss rate, MPKI, and IPC, with LRU as the baseline.
Prepare a report with the simulation results, analysis, and justifications for the best cache replacement policy.
Deliverables:

GEM5 modified code implementing the LIP_3 policy.
Simulation results, including raw data and plots.
Report in PDF format, including analysis, plots, and work distribution (template provided).
Documentation of steps taken in GEM5 to implement and run the simulations.
Qualifications:

Proficiency in GEM5 simulations and cache replacement policies.
Strong understanding of computer architecture concepts, especially cache management.
