My DS1307 real-time clock drifts unpredictably; it can keep perfect time for hours and then suddenly jump ahead or fall behind without any pattern. Power cycles don’t seem to matter—the inaccuracy appears randomly, even while the MCU keeps running smoothly.

So far I have:
• Verified all wiring and pull-ups on the I²C lines
• Flashed the latest firmware and confirmed register writes/readbacks

Despite those checks, the clock still slips. I’d like you to dig into both the hardware and software sides, identify the root cause, and provide a concrete fix. Oscillator tolerance, load-cap mismatch, bus timing, code mistakes—whatever the culprit, I need a repeatable solution rather than a temporary patch.
