Custom Jukebox Controller PCB Design
Budget: £20 – £250 GBP
Project Title: Design a Custom Jukebox Controller PCB (Drop-In Replacement)
Project Overview
I am developing a modern Linux-based digital jukebox platform and require a custom controller PCB to replace an obsolete legacy controller board.
The original board is available and can be supplied to the successful freelancer for measurement and connector identification.
The objective is not to copy the original electronics. The objective is to design a modern replacement board that fits the same physical location, uses the existing wiring harnesses and provides the functionality required by the new software.
Requirements
The replacement PCB must:
* Match the physical dimensions of the existing board.
* Use the same mounting hole locations.
* Position connectors so the existing wiring harness can be reused.
* Be designed using modern, readily available components.
* Include complete design files, schematics, PCB layout and firmware source code.
Core Functions Required
Coin and Credit Functions
* Coin mechanism pulse input.
* Coin mechanism enable/inhibit output.
* Coin mechanism status LED control.
* Credit button input.
* Service button input.
Audio Functions
* Stereo line-level audio input from PC motherboard front-panel audio header.
* Stereo audio output to existing amplifier.
* Software-controlled volume control.
* Audio mute control.
* Amplifier enable/disable control.
* Audio switching and routing capability.
Microphone Functions
* Microphone input.
* Microphone enable/disable.
* Provision for future microphone priority and music ducking.
Remote Control Functions
* Infrared remote receiver input.
* Report remote-control button presses to host software.
Communications
* USB connection to Linux PC.
* USB serial communications interface.
* Commands and events exchanged with host software.
* Firmware update capability over USB.
Additional Inputs and Outputs
* Status LEDs.
* Optional cabinet door switch input.
* Expansion inputs and outputs for future features.
Preferred Hardware
Open to recommendations, however ESP32-S3, Raspberry Pi Pico 2 or similar modern microcontroller platforms are preferred.
Deliverables
* Complete schematic.
* PCB design files (KiCad preferred).
* Bill of Materials (BOM).
* Gerber files.
* Firmware source code.
* Assembly documentation.
* Prototype-ready design suitable for manufacture by JLCPCB, PCBWay or similar.
What Will Be Provided
* Original controller board for measurement and connector identification.
* High-resolution photographs of both sides of the board.
* Connector and wiring information identified during software development.
* Ongoing communication during development and testing.
Please provide examples of previous PCB design, embedded systems, audio electronics, USB device or controller board projects completed.
