CAN Ultrasonic Sensor Module

I’m building a mobile robot and need a dedicated control board that polls multiple ultrasonic transducers and streams their distance data over CAN 2.0B at roughly 500 kbps. The primary sensor will be the AJ-SR04M; however, I’d like the design to remain compatible with other SR04-style parts (HC-SR04, JSN-SR04T, etc.) for bench testing.

Core functions
• Eight to ten sensor channels, each sampled near 20 Hz
• 12 V supply input with on-board 5 V and 3.3 V regulation
• CAN output frame containing distance in millimetres plus a valid/error flag per sensor

Hardware specifics are flexible—there’s no strict board outline—so feel free to optimise for size and routing ease. A microcontroller family you’re comfortable with (STM32, AVR, ESP32, etc.) is fine as long as firmware, configuration and any needed drivers are open and well-commented.

Deliverables
• Complete schematic and production-ready PCB package (Gerbers, BOM, pick-and-place)
• Fully documented firmware source with build instructions
• A brief test routine demonstrating correct CAN messages from eight sensors simultaneously
