About the Role
We are seeking a data-driven Email Marketing Specialist to develop and execute email strategies that drive ecommerce growth and strengthen customer engagement.
This role combines strategy, analytics, and creative execution. You will be responsible for building, managing, and optimizing email campaigns that guide customers from initial engagement through purchase, retention, and re-engagement. The role is not limited to simply sending campaigns. It is designed for someone who can think through audience behavior, campaign structure, personalization, automation, and performance improvement in a commercially meaningful way.
This is a strong fit for someone who understands how email contributes to ecommerce revenue, customer lifecycle performance, and broader marketing efficiency, and who can turn that understanding into structured campaigns, stronger targeting, and measurable results over time.
Engagement Details
This is a freelance / contract-based remote role open to global candidates. We are looking for someone interested in long-term collaboration, with an expected workload of 15–30 hours per week depending on campaign needs, reporting cadence, testing volume, and business priorities.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
1. Email Strategy & Campaign Execution
You will develop and execute email marketing strategies designed to support ecommerce growth and customer lifecycle performance. This includes planning, building, and managing campaigns such as promotional emails, lifecycle campaigns, welcome sequences, retention campaigns, re-engagement campaigns, and drip sequences.
You should be comfortable moving from strategy into execution, ensuring each campaign is aligned with business goals, audience intent, seasonal priorities, and ecommerce performance targets. This role requires someone who can think beyond isolated sends and build an email system that supports revenue, retention, and stronger customer communication over time.
2. Audience Segmentation & Personalization
You will build and manage audience segments across the customer base and use segmentation logic to improve relevance, timing, and campaign effectiveness. This includes optimizing targeting based on customer behavior, engagement patterns, and lifecycle stage.
A core responsibility of this role is improving personalization across campaigns so that messaging, offers, and timing are more aligned with what different customer groups are likely to respond to. We are looking for someone who understands that stronger email performance often comes from better audience logic, not just better copy alone.
3. Performance Optimization
You will analyze campaign performance and continuously optimize email activity based on business-relevant metrics. This includes improving open rate, click-through rate, and conversion rate, while identifying which parts of the campaign structure are helping or hurting results.
You will also run A/B tests across subject lines, messaging, layout, timing, and other variables to improve performance over time. This role requires someone who is comfortable using performance data to make practical decisions and refine campaign strategy rather than simply reporting numbers after the fact.
4. CRM & Automation
You will manage email workflows inside CRM or ESP platforms and build automated sequences that support customer lifecycle progression. This includes setting up automation logic, maintaining workflow quality, and ensuring automated campaigns continue to perform as intended.
You will also be responsible for maintaining compliance with opt-in and opt-out standards and making sure email execution is operationally sound, organized, and aligned with customer communication best practices.
5. Cross-Team Collaboration
You will work closely with the Marketing team, Ecommerce team, and Content team to ensure email campaigns are aligned with broader commercial and marketing priorities. This role sits within a wider growth ecosystem, so strong coordination is important.
You should be comfortable translating broader campaign goals into effective email execution, aligning with product or promotional priorities, and helping email support larger acquisition, retention, and conversion initiatives across the business.
Workflow & Working Rhythm
This role follows a clear operating cadence.
Daily, you will monitor campaign performance, execute scheduled campaigns, and optimize email content, targeting, or workflow elements as needed.
Weekly, you will analyze performance metrics, run A/B tests, and update audience segments and automation workflows based on recent campaign behavior and business priorities.
Monthly, you will report on campaign performance, optimize the broader email strategy, and improve lifecycle campaigns to support stronger revenue, engagement, and retention outcomes over time.
Reporting & Deliverables
This role includes both executional output and structured reporting responsibilities.
You will be expected to provide:
Weekly email performance reports covering open rate, CTR, conversions, and related campaign insights
Monthly strategic reports summarizing key learnings, improvement opportunities, and recommendations
Dashboard tracking across email campaigns and lifecycle performance
Core deliverables include:
Email campaigns and sequences
Segmentation strategies
Performance reports
Automation workflows
This role is expected to contribute both tactical execution and meaningful performance insight that helps improve the email channel over time.
How We Measure Success
Success in this role will be measured through a mix of engagement, conversion, and revenue performance. Key metrics include:
Open rate
Click-through rate (CTR)
Conversion rate
Revenue generated from email campaigns
Strong performance in this role means building email campaigns and workflows that not only get opened, but also drive action, improve customer movement through the funnel, and contribute to ecommerce growth in a measurable way.
Collaboration
You will work closely with:
Marketing / Growth team
Ecommerce team
Content and design teams
This role requires strong communication and coordination, especially when campaigns depend on timing, promotions, creative assets, segmentation strategy, and broader channel alignment.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone with 2+ years of experience in email marketing, ideally in B2C or ecommerce environments, with strong hands-on experience building and managing campaigns that support revenue and engagement goals.
You should have experience using email marketing platforms / ESP tools, a strong understanding of segmentation and automation, familiarity with CRM systems, and an analytical mindset grounded in data-driven decision-making. Strong written communication skills are also important, because the quality of messaging, structure, and clarity directly affects campaign performance.
The right person for this role should be comfortable balancing strategy, execution, analysis, and workflow management inside a performance-oriented ecommerce environment.
Nice to Have
The following would be valuable, though not required:
Basic HTML or email coding knowledge
Experience with tools such as Google Analytics or Data Studio
Experience with ecommerce customer journeys
Experience working in content-driven marketing environments
These capabilities can help the role contribute more effectively across reporting, optimization, and lifecycle execution.
Compensation
Hourly Rate: $30 – $80/hour, based on experience and performance
Workload: Flexible depending on campaign volume and business needs
Incentives: Performance-based incentives available
Growth Opportunity: Long-term opportunity with room to grow as the business and email program continue to scale
Benefits
