Using MATPOWER run the IEEE 30-­‐‑
bus Standard Test Feeder for 24 hours. Using 15-­‐‑minute or 1-­‐‑hour intervals, the model
needs to run every time step (i.e., 96 or 24) and calculate optimal set points for the
scheduled generation and dispatchable loads. We will primarily monitor the voltage
magnitude and losses at each bus, and line loading of all branches. Line loading is
defined as the magnitude of the apparent power flowing through each branch over its
MVA limit.

Include load profiles for all loads in the network, such that they change over time. You
can divide the network into three areas/zones, and assume that loads at all
buses within a given zone behave the same way.
Hint: Consider using normalized load profiles for various areas in New York,
from the New York Independent System Operator website (do some research
on your own to find the data on the website. Consider using “load data” and
