Variscite SoM Custom Carrier Board Design - Version 1
Budget: $5,000 – $10,000 USD
We are in need of an expert who can design a custom Variscite System on Module (SoM) carrier board. The carrier board needs to support the following input/output capabilities:
USB-A
USB-C
SD card
Stereo jack
Volume buttons
Power button
WiFi/Bluetooth
It will also need to support power management, stepping down a 24V (80W) input supply to both the Variscite SoM, the above components listed, and a solenoid valve array running at peak 5V/30W.
Beyond the standard input/output connections listed above and power management, we will need the carrier board to support communication via I2C and UART to two other microcontrollers (both SAMD21J) within the enclosure. In addition, we will need to be able to program those microcontrollers from the SoM itself. There will be a few other internal I/O connections that are fairly basic (e.g., switches, Serial-out protocol, indicator LEDs), but otherwise, most of the complexity will be tied up in supporting external interfaces (e.g., USB, Audio, WiFi) and enabling control and programming of internal connected microcontrollers.
Variscite has full schematics and design files available for their carrier boards that can be used as reference. Candidates should have significant experience in custom board design and should be well-versed in catering to specific requirements. Familiarity with Variscite SoM is preferred, but not required. If you have the requisite skills and experiences, we would be interested in discussing this further.
We're looking for someone to take on the first prototype of the Carrier Board based on a previous PCB footprint using KiCad. Delivery should include full KiCad design files (KiCad project including footprint/symbol libraries) of the prototype with layout optimized for fit with previous prototype → the goal is to test out peripheral connections and make sure SoM is working with all connections and then to order PCBA via JLCPCB or other and confirm function on benchtop with our other PCBs/peripherals.
Further detail will be provided as necessary.
