Development of a User-Friendly Sonar Depth Meter
Project Description
I am looking for an experienced electronics engineer/programmer to design and implement a sonar depth meter based on ultrasonic technology. The key requirement is the simplicity of operation on a "plug and play" basis (similar to the JSN-SR04T sensor) - without the need for complicated calibration by the end user.
Scope of Work

Electronic Circuit Design, including:

Ultrasonic signal generator
Transmitter driver for transducer control
Receiver path with appropriate filter and signal detection circuit
Control unit based on a microcontroller (STM32 suggested, but not mandatory)
Temperature sensor for automatic sound velocity compensation
User interface with LCD display and rotary encoder
Factory pre-calibration of the system


PCB Design, Production and Testing

Electrical schematic in preferred format
PCB layout design
Component assembly


Microcontroller Programming, including:

Depth measurement algorithm with automatic temperature compensation
Simple user menu without the need for technical configuration
Automatic correction and filtering of measurements for greater stability
Auto-calibration system at startup


Waterproof Enclosure Development:

Design and production of an enclosure with min. IP67 rating
Installation of the piezoelectric transducer with waterproof sealing


Technical Documentation:

Detailed schematic diagram
Bill of Materials (BOM)
Simple user manual (plug and play)
Source code with comments



Technical Specifications

Operating principle: plug and play
Measurement range: 0.5 - 50 meters depth
Measurement accuracy: ±10 cm or better
Automatic temperature compensation in the range of 0-30°C
Waterproof rating: minimum IP67
Power supply: constant 16V (power supply circuit is already designed)
User interface: 16×2 LCD display with I2C interface, rotary encoder with button
No need for manual calibration by the user

Notes on the Piezoelectric Transducer
The piezoelectric transducer can be:

200 kHz frequency
Dual frequency 200/83 kHz
Other frequency as recommended by the freelancer

The choice of transducer and its driving technology is left to the discretion of the developer, depending on their experience and ability to achieve the best measurement results.
