Proximity-Activated LED Lighting Install

I’m outfitting my scale model airplane with an LED lighting system that switches on automatically whenever someone (or another object) comes close to the aircraft. The motion-sensing method must rely on proximity detection rather than vibration or general movement.
already has lights. looking to install motion sensor and on off toggle switch. the touch sensor it currently has is shit and wont stay on for more then 20 sec.
