IR Mini-Split Universal Remote

I am interested in developing a universal IR remote for mini-split HVAC units. The device would read the IR signal of any original remote supplied with the users unit, identify the IR signals needed, then mimic those signals, so universal IR remote could be used with the user's system.



Once this functionality is working, there are a few minor programs I would want the remote to run. I would want the remote to have a temperature sensor, and be able to turn off the user's mini-split when the temperature on the remote reaches a certain temperature.
