ESP32 Current Loop Interface Design

Job ID: 39201318

Budget: $10 – $30 USD

We require a schematic and PCB design for a two-wire current loop interface that allows an ESP32 to send and receive data using current signals. The system must be capable of:

Transmitting data by regulating the current between 45mA (Logic 1) and <2mA (Logic 0).

Receiving data by detecting current levels and converting them into digital signals for the ESP32.

Switching between TX and RX modes, controlled by the ESP32.

The components mentioned (LM317, LM393, MOSFET, optocoupler) are for reference only. You are responsible for selecting the most suitable components to ensure accurate, reliable, and efficient operation within a 12V–42V DC current loop system.

Project Requirements

1. Transmission Circuit (TX Mode)

The circuit must maintain 45mA ±5% for Logic 1 and reduce to <2mA for Logic 0.

A current regulation method must be implemented (e.g., a voltage regulator, constant current source, or a better alternative).

The ESP32 should control transmission using a MOSFET or another appropriate switching component.

2. Reception Circuit (RX Mode)

The circuit should measure current and determine Logic 1 or 0.

A shunt resistor + voltage sensing or any other reliable technique can be used.

Signal isolation is required to protect the ESP32 (e.g., optocoupler).

3. Mode Switching

The design must include a method for switching between TX and RX modes using a MOSFET, relay, or any reliable component.

The ESP32 will control mode switching via a GPIO pin.

4. Power Supply

The system should operate within 12V–42V DC (standard current loop voltage).

The ESP32 will be powered separately (3.3V or 5V supply).

Deliverables

Correct and optimized schematic diagram in KiCad

PCB Layout PDF

Component List (BOM) with correct part numbers and specifications.

Simulation or calculations to validate the design (if applicable).

Design Responsibility

You are responsible for ensuring the correct design based on the project requirements.

The components mentioned are for reference; you can replace them with better alternatives if needed.

The final design should be accurate, stable, and optimized for real-world implementation.
