Design a simple circuit with an Arduino and a pMOS to control a 12V circuit.
Budget: £20 – £250 GBP
Is anyone particularly well versed in logic level pMOS power switching from an Arduino, I'm really struggling to find a FET to suit my needs and get a set up that works. Any advice would be much appreciated, thank you.
The crux of the project is, I need an Arduino (code I've got covered) to send a signal to a gate of a transistor to switch a 10-14V (Automotive) circuit. I expect about 50Watts maximum draw, because of the application, unfortunately I cannot use a nMOS directly as the grounds in the car are all common and permanent.
The reason for using a MOSFET rather than a relay is I need fairly high switching speed.
I've looked at direct DC to DC SSRs and they are very pricey for what I need to do.
The scope of what I need is:
To have you select the most appropriate pMOSFET preferably with a datasheet and any related discrete components required.
Then draw a circuit, (can be very basic) showing an Arduino or any 5V source going to a gate of the MOSFET, that will allow the FET to switch a 12v circuit on the positive rail.
This is going into a car, so if the Arduino can be powered by a buck converter to drop down to the 5v requiment, I can source this.
