CAN based sensor system based on Arduino Ecosystem

I need a modular sensor system with a master and maximum of 16 nodes. After some research and my own trial and error, I want it to be based on the CAN bus. More specific on the already very common MCPxxxx series from microchip.

You'll have a quite free role to use or make it however you want as long it my requirements are fulfilled.
