Advanced 3-Phase Smartmeter PCB Engineer -- 2
Budget: €12 – €18 EUR
Job Title: PCB & Embedded Systems Engineer for Advanced 3-Phase Smartmeter Design
We are developing a compact, high-performance 3-phase smartmeter designed to monitor energy usage, control smart loads, and support modern communication protocols. This device will be deployed in distributed energy networks and integrated into energy communities via our inowattio.com platform.
The project already includes a well-defined schematic architecture, detailed block diagrams, a complete component list, and a logical layout concept. We are now seeking a skilled hardware engineer to finalize the schematic, design the PCB layout, and deliver production-ready files for prototyping.
The engineer will be responsible for designing schematics and a 4-layer PCB (maximum dimensions 60mm x 100mm) using KiCad or Altium. The board must integrate the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 (1x), ADE9000 metering IC, IRM-20-5 onboard AC-DC converter, RM502Q-AE 5G module via M.2 connector, RTL8189 Wi-Fi module, dual RS-485 ports, USB and Ethernet connectivity, antenna ports, and smart load control interfaces.
The board must include 5 opto-isolated GPIOs for smart load switching, supporting AC-capable output via MOSFETs or relays. The layout should also accommodate external current transformer (CT) inputs with screw terminals and onboard voltage divider networks for per-phase voltage monitoring. Proper separation of connectors is required: current and power inputs must be on the top side of the board, and communication interfaces on the bottom.
Deliverables must include full schematic and PCB layout files, BOMs with sourcing links (e.g., LCSC or DigiKey), Gerber files, silkscreened PCB exports, and layout files prepared for 3D enclosure integration if possible.
The ideal candidate should have a proven track record in smartmeter or energy IC PCB design, experience integrating CTs and voltage sensing with metrology ICs, familiarity with Linux SoM modules such as CM4, and hands-on knowledge of industrial communication protocols including RS-485 and M.2-based 5G modems.
The estimated budget for this project is between $800 and $1500 depending on experience and scope. Expected delivery time is 2 to 4 weeks. Interested candidates should send examples of similar hardware projects they have completed, specify their preferred toolchain, and confirm prior experience in energy-related embedded system design.
