T4 Transformer 4: 50 MVA, Y-Y, 345 kV/13.8 kV, ??? = 0.07 ??
TL 1 Transmission Line 1: ?? = 22.5 mΩ/km, ?? = 0.5 Ω/km, ??,??? = 2 kA, ? = 80 km.
TL 2 Transmission Line 2: ?? = 26 mΩ/km, ?? = 0.6 Ω/km, ??,??? = 3 kA, ? = 100 km.
? and ? are negligible for the transformers and transmission lines.
All per unit quantities are given with respect to their own ratings as base quantities.
Use 60 MVA and 34.5 kV as the base at bus 1, and calculate all base quantities accordingly.
Load Operating Values
The industrial zone at bus 2 is composed of induction motors ?1 and ?1 is a residential zone load
?2 at bus 3. The operating conditions are obtained through Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) as

v1,??,?? = 1.02∠0° pu, ?෨
v2,??,?? = 0.97∠ − 5° pu, and ?෨
v3,??,?? = 0.90∠ − 7° pu.

Part 1 – Main Case
The main (reference) case, Case 1, starts by drawing the per unit circuit of the power grid. This is
solved by hand with the base quantities and the per unit results summarized. List all the base
quantities in a table, and list all the variables both in pu and actual values in another table. Include
your detailed solution and the circuit diagram (they could be written and drawn neatly by hand).
Next, a model is developed in PowerWorldSimulator® with all the variables that were computed
by hand displayed in the simulation. Then record the simulation in running mode and include the
bus records table in your report as two figures.
Verify the simulation results obtained are the same as those solved by hand. Also include your
own summary table of main results to be discussed. For example, discuss what is it that needs to
be improved in the system, briefly mentioning where and how. The summary table should at a
minimum include the ? and ? for generator, motor, and residential loads, the transmission lines
(losses), the transmission line currents, and the voltages at the three main buses.
