PID Circuit Design with Microcontrollers

We are trying to build a closed-loop control system electronically. These are the main components of our system:
Sensor: In our case it is a photodiode measuring the output of an interferometer as a voltage signal V_o, which would be our control variable.
Set point: This is the target (desired) output of the interferometer; V_s. Ideally V_o = V_s at all times, but since the interferometer is prone to ambient conditions and noise, there is a time-varying difference between the target and the measured values when the system is operated in open loop.
Controller: This compares the measured and the set point values and generates a control signal accordingly. We are utilizing an electronic PID unit that takes measured and setpoint values as input and generates the control signal.
Actuator: This takes control signal as an input and manipulates the control variable V_o. In our system this is a phase shifter that adjusts the relative phase between the interferometer arms (hence V_o), in order to attempt to correct for the noise and hold the output voltage at the set point V_s.
Accordingly, we need someone who has hands-on experience with electronic feedback loops, i.e. someone who has built electronic circuits that includes a PID controller. The emphasis is NOT on the PID design, it is on having experience building electronic circuits for feedback loop.
