Lightweight RC Glider ESC
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I fly F5J competition gliders and the commercial controllers on the market still cost me precious grams. I’d like you to design a truly lightweight ESC that tips the scales somewhere between 20 g and 30 g while running reliably on a 6 – 12 V supply (2-3 S Li-Po). Weight is the top priority—every component, track width, and line of code should be chosen with that in mind.
What I need from you
• Complete schematic and component selection with individual part weights noted.
• Space-efficient PCB layout plus Gerber and pick-and-place files ready for fab.
• Firmware (your own or an open-source base such as BLHeli-32) compiled and ready to flash, supporting standard throttle calibration and a simple motor brake for folding props.
• A clean BOM and brief report showing thermal and current-handling calculations that confirm safe operation across the full 6–12 V range.
Acceptance criteria
• Finished, ready-to-shrink board weighs no more than 30 g (ideally closer to 20 g).
• Stable start-up and smooth throttle response on the typical 3-phase outrunner used in F5J.
• No desync or thermal shutdown during a three-minute static load test at the agreed current rating.
I’ll flight-test prototypes and provide quick feedback, so please allow for two short firmware revision cycles. If you have a portfolio of ultra-light UAV or RC electronics, I’d love to see it when you bid.
