Engineer for High-End, Silent Cocktail Machine Prototype
Budget: £750 – £1,500 GBP
We are looking for an experienced Product Design Engineer (Mechanical + Electrical) to lead the prototyping of a high-end, silent benchtop cocktail machine. Unlike traditional machines, this device relies on solid-state physics rather than mechanical moving parts to replicate the thermodynamics of a professional bartender.
We have a complete Product Requirements Document (PRD) and preliminary architecture. We need you to take these requirements and build a fully functional "looks-like, works-like" prototype.
The Engineering Challenge: The device replaces mechanical shaking and stirring with precision energy application. You will be engineering a system that integrates:
Ultrasonic Cavitation (40kHz): For instant emulsification.
Thermodynamics: High-power Peltier (TEC) modules and a thermal battery for flash-chilling liquids to -8°C.
Fluid Dynamics: Magnetic drive gear pumps feeding a custom Venturi injector for gas aeration (N2/N2O).
Inductive Magnetics: Motor-less magnetic stirring.
Scope of Work:
Review & Refine: Analyze our current PRD and component list to validate feasibility.
Phase 1 (MVP Prototype): Design and assemble a functional breadboard/bench prototype to prove the core physics (Ultrasonic mixing + Peltier cooling + Venturi dispensing).
Phase 2 (Alpha Prototype): Integrate the system into a compact enclosure (CNC/3D printed) with a touchscreen UI and control logic.
Phase 3: iterations & Full roll out
Documentation: Provide BOM, CAD files, and firmware documentation for the eventual handover to a manufacturing partner.
Required Qualifications:
Fluent English: Must be able to communicate complex technical concepts clearly on calls.
Consumer Appliance Experience: Proven track record of designing household products involving food-grade liquids, heating/cooling elements, or pressurized systems.
Multi-Disciplinary: Capable of handling the mechanical design (SolidWorks/Fusion360), electronics (PCB design for high-current Peltiers), and firmware (C/C++). OR partner closely with someone who has these skills (i can hire for this)
Safety Compliance: Experience designing systems that handle hot water/steam sterilization safely.
To Apply: Please share 2-3 examples of hardware prototypes you have built from scratch. Specifically, highlight any projects involving thermodynamics (cooling/heating) or fluid control systems.
Full documentation available for next round
