Effective design and analysis of a fuel-cell power assisted electric bicycle
Budget: ₹12,500 – ₹37,500 INR
With increasing demand for efficient and clean modes of transportation, e-bikes have recently seen a large increase in popularity. This project aims on the design of a fuel cell system and an electric drive for a bespoke bike. The bike will have to meet UK e-bike regulations such as a maximum power output of the motor < 250W with an assistance capability of up to 15.5mph and it should feature pedal-assisted motor control. Advanced spreadsheets calculations will be used to size a fuel cell stack along with its hydrogen storage method and select & size an appropriate motor. Employing bicycle dynamics, motor currents will be determined over a range of specific riding scenarios (i.e. gradients) and types of e-bikes. Simulink models will be used to simulate & analyse the operation of the fuel cell system and motor under similar riding conditions to those considered for evaluating the motor currents.
