Local Newspaper Layout Design

I’m revamping a daily publication dedicated to local news and I need a clean, modern layout that immediately guides readers to the stories that matter most to our community. The design must feature two cornerstone sections—Breaking News up front and Community Events in a prominent, easy-to-scan spot—while still leaving flexible space for additional content such as occasional opinion pieces.

The final package should give me:
• A print-ready template (QuarkXpress, InDesign, Affinity Publisher, or an equivalent professional tool) covering front page, inside news pages, and a back-page community calendar.
• Consistent typographic and colour styles that differentiate urgent items from regular features.
• Simple style-sheet instructions so my editorial team can drop in articles and photos without breaking the grid.

Please tell me about your experience creating newspaper or magazine layouts—software used, circulation sizes handled, and any challenges you solved—so I can understand how quickly you’ll slot into our production workflow.
