Paralegal for Final Draft Court Filing Support:
Finalize Formatting of USDC Filing (No Legal Research Required)
Overview:
- Support Plaintiffs in an active federal civil rights case in the U.S. District Court.
- We are seeking a detail-oriented paralegal to assist in preparing final Word document for court filing, e.g., (e.g., font, margins, double-spacing, numbering)
- The entire document is final and legal arguments and citations are already complete—this is strictly a formatting and organization. However, there are some additions to a Memorandum for Summary Judgment with specific instructions where and what to copy and paste.
Project Scope:
- Use existing Word draft and template to finalize the Plaintiffs’ Objection and Supporting Filings.
Tasks include:
- Formatting existing sections (e.g., Introduction, Background, Legal Standards, Argument, Conclusion, Certificates)
- Inserting a Table of Contents and Table of Authorities
- Ensuring uniform headings, spacing, pagination, and internal citations
- Matching USDC local formatting rules (e.g., font, margins, double-spacing, numbering)
What’s NOT Required:
- No legal research
- No rewriting of arguments
- No ECF filing – Plaintiff will file directly through CM/ECF
Work Process:
- Collaborate via video conference to review the draft and clarify final formatting objectives.
- Document will be shared via Microsoft Word.
- Drafting templates and prior filings will be provided for consistency.
Deliverables:
- A finalized, clean Word document formatted for federal court
- A properly generated Table of Contents and Table of Authorities
- PDF version with consistent bookmarks (optional)
Qualifications:
- Paralegal or legal assistant experience with federal court filings.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word (TOC, cross-references, headers/footers, section breaks).
- Familiarity with formatting for U.S. District Courts, however prior filings are available.
- Detail-oriented and responsive with availability for at least 1–2 live sessions over Zoom or similar.
Timeline:
- Immediate start – starting with one defined set of tasks, to be completed ASAP!
- Flexibility for revisions before filing deadline
Compensation:
- Hourly only applicants accepted with clear estimate of hours.
