Job Brief: Book Editing Services
Project Overview: I am seeking a skilled and experienced editor to assist me with editing my book. The book is approximately 40,000 words long and is currently in Microsoft Word format. The book is written about workplace culture / engagement and guides individuals towards responsibility, self development and self-leadership.
The main objectives of this project are to improve the chapter order and content flow, eliminate duplicate messaging, correct grammar and sentence structure, and ensure overall clarity and readability. In addition, I require assistance with proper referencing and formatting of the reference list. I am open to creative ideas and suggestions from the editor that can enhance the quality and impact of the book. The project is expected to take place in July 2023.
Must be fluent, English speaking editor based in a western culture (for language purposes)
Key Responsibilities:
1. Review and Improve Chapter Order and Content Flow: The editor will carefully examine the existing chapter structure and suggest revisions if necessary. They will ensure that the book's content flows logically and smoothly, enhancing the reader's understanding and engagement.
2. Eliminate Duplicate Messaging: The editor will identify any instances of repeated information or messaging throughout the book and suggest appropriate revisions or deletions to avoid redundancy and maintain a concise and focused narrative.
3. Correct Grammar, Typos, and Sentence Structure: The editor will thoroughly proofread the entire manuscript, addressing grammar errors, typos, punctuation mistakes, and inconsistencies in sentence structure. They will ensure that the writing is polished and error-free (Grammarly has been used throughout to date)
4. Proper Referencing and Formatting: Although I have captured book titles for reference with quotes, the editor will be responsible for correctly referencing them. This includes ensuring accurate citation formats, proper placement, and consistency throughout the manuscript.
5. Provide Creative Ideas: The editor is encouraged to offer creative suggestions and ideas to enhance the book's overall quality, style, and impact. This may include proposing alternative wording, identifying areas for additional content or expansion, or suggesting structural improvements.
6. Once changes aligned, format the book for listing on Amazon
Qualifications and Requirements:
• Proven experience in editing books, preferably in a related genre or subject matter.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and other related Amazon software specific packages
• Strong command of English grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure.
• Familiarity with various citation styles and the ability to properly format references.
• Attention to detail and ability to deliver high-quality work within the specified timeframe.
• Excellent communication skills and responsiveness to address any queries or concerns during the editing process.
Deliverables:
• Edited manuscript with tracked changes visible, ensuring all objectives mentioned above are met.
• A revised chapter order, if necessary, to improve the overall flow of the book.
• A polished manuscript with corrected grammar, typos, and sentence structure.
