Japanese Manga Localization Specialist – Dialogue & Cultural Adaptation

We are a studio preparing manga titles for official release. We need a native Japanese translator who is also a manga enthusiast to handle the full localization of select works. This involves adapting the English-translated dialogue, sound effects (SFX), and cultural notes back into natural, engaging Japanese that captures the original series' voice, humor, and impact for a Japanese readership.
This is transcreation, not direct translation. You must understand character personalities, comedic timing, and genre conventions (e.g., shonen battle cries, shojo inner monologues) to make the dialogue feel authentic and alive on the page.
Your Core Responsibilities:
Adapt English manga dialogue into natural, character-appropriate Japanese.
Recreate or adapt sound effects (擬音語/擬態語) like "POW!" or "glare..." into their natural Japanese equivalents (e.g., ドカン！, ジーッ...).
Write brief, unobtrusive cultural notes (訳注) where needed to explain foreign concepts that have been introduced.
Ensure the flow and pacing of speech bubbles match the original artwork and intent.
Who You Are:
A native Japanese speaker who reads manga regularly and understands different genres and demographics.
Professionally fluent in English, with the ability to grasp nuance, slang, and humor.
Experience in translation, writing, or editing is required. Prior manga, anime, game, or light novel localization experience is a major advantage.
A creative thinker who can solve adaptation challenges (e.g., how to localize a pun or a culture-specific joke).
Meticulous and able to work within strict character limits per speech bubble.
