Fantasy Children’s Book Writing

Job ID: 40566814

Budget: $250 – $750 USD

I’m putting together a fantasy story aimed squarely at 9- to 12-year-olds and need a writer who can bring an imaginative world to life while keeping the pacing crisp and the characters relatable for that pre-teen audience. Think quests, magical creatures, and unexpected twists that still make sense to a young reader discovering longer fiction for the first time.

Although my main priority is the manuscript, I intend to pair the text with realistic illustrations, so descriptive passages that inspire a talented artist are essential. Vivid scene-setting, clear emotional cues, and visually striking moments will guide the art direction later on.

A concise outline to show how the plot unfolds over chapters, followed by a polished draft of roughly 20,000–25,000 words, should suit the reading level and allow room for illustrations without making the book feel overwhelming.

Deliverables I’m looking for:
• Chapter-by-chapter outline with key beats and cliff-hangers
• Full manuscript, edited and proofread
• Short illustration briefs noting characters’ looks, key settings, and any magical objects that need to appear consistently in a realistic style

Please share a sample of previous middle-grade or upper elementary fantasy work so I can get a feel for your voice. If our styles click, I’m ready to move quickly into outlining and can give prompt feedback at every stage.
