One To World is a New York-based not-for-profit organization that works to advance global cooperation and foster intercultural understanding by creating face-to-face experiences among local communities, international students and Fulbright scholars. One To World engages the almost 100,000 international students studying in the New York-area (including over 800 Fulbright grantees) through programs that create understanding and build positive relationships between area residents and these unofficial ambassadors from all over the world. Our programs provide a unique opportunity for U.S. residents and international students to engage on an intimate level; having dinner inside local homes, sharing culture and experiences in the classroom, and volunteering their time together through community service projects.
One To World is seeking a designer for an update to its e-publication The International Student's Survival Guide to Living in NYC, an invaluable and proven resource for both newly arrived and long-term resident students, interns, and educators. For a sample of the e-book, please click here. The ideal candidate should be able to efficiently combine creativity, functionality, and technology to produce eye-catching and informative content. In this role, organizational and technical skills are key, and all candidates must possess in-depth knowledge of design software programs.
Job description
• Design and format edits and proofreads to a 45,000 word e-publication that includes external links and images
• Ensure formats are compatible to desktops, mobile devices, and tablets
• Complete book design and provide final files (epub or pdf and word doc) by February 18, 2021
Qualifications
• Experience with e-publications or e-books
• Great digital design and digital typography skills
• Technology skills — Essential: HTML, CSS, and EPUB.
• Working knowledge of CSS and HTML
• Proven digital content skills
• Understanding of traditional book layout principles
• Understanding e-readers: their limitations, capabilities, and usability issues
• Understanding of web or software development, testing and quality assurance procedures
