Romance Novel Book Covers

I'm interested in a book cover design that will work for every book I write, to create continuity and branding. Four books of mine have been published but their design doesn't have any punch (on Amazon, author Kate Nugent). The design has to say (shout?) romance without a bodice-ripping Fabio and an over-endowed female on the cover. Frankly, I love the idea of an illustration vs. a photograph, or even an abstract watercolor with text that will catch the eye. My designs are all canned designs using Kindle Publishing tools.

I write contemporary romance about men and women in their 30's. My main theme is what I would call second-chance love, where the couple may know each other for a long time before they realize they love each other, or they knew each other years ago and meet again. I write about couples being soulmates, having loved each other in past lives, but I don't write about time travel. The books are a little steamy but that's not the essence of the plots. The central point for all the books is that the characters have some ties to Maine, and to the area around Portland in particular, but I'm writing one now about a vineyard in Provence, France and another I've published is set in Maine, Munich and Vienna, with characters from Maine.

Three of the cover designs are uploaded below. The photos for the first two are of Portland Headlight, the lighthouse in Cape Elizabeth Maine at the mouth of Portland Harbor. The lighthouse plays a big part in all three of the Preble House Series books. The book cover for Meant to Be is of the Belvedere Gardens in Vienna. While the image means something important to me, I'm certain the meaning doesn't translate to someone perusing titles by cover on Amazon. The curly font one appeals to me because it's less staid, kind of fun, and I
like that the male and female characters are represented.

My Books
The Preble House Series
Yesterday Is Never Gone is about two people who were nearly engaged when a personal tragedy separated them. They meet again after fifteen years, and wonder if they can rekindle the love they once had for each other. Both are involved with the renovation of the Preble House, an old shingle style home on the Maine coast.

After All This Time is about two people who were best friends growing up in Colorado, until the man tells the woman he loves her. The woman is surprised and isn't sure how to respond, and the man leaves for the East Coast. They don't see each other until both are involved in the restoration of the Preble House, a shingle style home on the Maine coast. The man knows he still loves the woman, and sets out to convince her that she loves him.

Do You Remember Me? is about a man and a woman who meet while working on an old hotel renovation. The woman is just out of college, and the man is still grieving for the young wife he lost just eighteen months before, so while they are attracted to each other, the attraction goes nowhere. Ten years later, once again they meet as both are working on the renovation of the Preble House, a shingle style home on the Maine coast. She is trying to get a divorce from a brutal man she wishes she'd never married, and he needs to finally come to terms with his wife's death so he can move on.

The Chesterwood Series
Meant to Be is about a man and a woman who randomly meet on ski vacations in Austria. Both spend most of their time in Vienna, but also return home to Maine for holidays and vacations. They run into each other in Maine over the Christmas holidays and fall in love, but she worries that when they return to their respective lives in Vienna, everything will fall apart. He believes they are soulmates and will do anything to be with her.

Have We Met Before? is about a man who meets a woman at a vineyard in France, but she is too young to realize she has just met her soulmate. Years later, they meet again and wonder if they've met each other before. Not until a trip to France do they admit they are meant for each other.
