Creative eBook Editing for Coherence
Budget: $3,000 – $5,000 AUD
LOOKING FOR QUOTES
I'm Casey, a young, independent author in Queensland, Australia, looking to self-publish my first original novel, Aurelia, after some time of writing fanfictions.
I need an editor from Australia to take a look at my manuscript once it's finished, hopefully starting in July this year, so right now I'm looking for quotes to gauge the budget I'll need. I'm looking for both copy and developmental editing and proofreading, and an editor I can make regular correspondence with to ensure the edits don't make too much of an impact on the story I'm trying to tell.
The story has two parts with different tones, with the only overarching genre being science fiction (specifically AI), but the first part of the book leans mainly into the romance genre whereas the second part is more on the side of action, so I need an editor who has experience or the ability to work with all three genres. The main theme of the story is about the ethical ramifications of sentient AI and what it means to be human, with a lesser theme relating to climate change. My current estimate for the final manuscript word count is 100,000 words, and it is a full novel. The target demographic is young adults (15-16+) and older.
Along with regular correspondence, I'll also need the editor to be able to send through finished chapters for early access publishing on my Patreon page, and the final retail release will be as both an eBook and paperback for publishing on Amazon and other eBook sites, as well as my own website I'm working on as a PDF. My current deadline for release is November 2024, so depending on when I finish the manuscript, the time for editing might be between 5-7 months.
I'm hoping to make this book as good as it can be, and it's also going to be the first in a trilogy/possibly longer series. My hopeful maximum budget is in the $5,000 range, but I can try to negotiate the price including a payment arrangement if necessary, and if I get a good story out of all this, I've already got more novels lined up to write and release over the next few years, so there's a possibility of a long term business relationship as well.
Thanks.
