With Drupal - Need to duplicate a content type and its template

I am able to duplicate a content type of a general page...but the new content type pages that I publish for some reason are using a different template and the padding and alignment is different. I think it's a simple fix that should not take long. Please have experience with drupal if you wanna do this.
