Lapstrake Plank DXF Drawings
Budget: $750 – $1,500 NZD
I’m rebuilding a lapstrake wooden boat and I want to make new plank cut on a CNC router rather than hand cutting and fitting them all. My plan is to make templates at each station mould from ply wood, then get a local company to turn them into a digital shape using a CMM but I need you to turn that raw information into clean, dimension-correct CAD data.
The job: translate my references into individual strake outlines, fully dimensioned so each file can go straight to CAM without additional tweaking. Accuracy is important—±1 mm along the edges, including gains, scarf joints, and any bevels that affect fit.
Deliverables
• A separate DXF file for each plank drawn at 1:1 scale, with all key dimensions embedded.
• A simple legend or short note set explaining any assumptions you had to make so I can double-check before machining.
Acceptance criteria: the DXFs open in Fusion 360 at full scale, overlay cleanly on my reference scans, and match my control measurements across the sheer, garboard, and intermediary strakes.
I’m happy to supply photos, sketches, and the template information. I havent made the templates yet as I wanted to check this was possible first. If this sounds like work you enjoy, let’s get started—my hull is waiting!
