I’m looking for a straightforward 2-D digital chessboard that runs smoothly as a desktop application on Windows. All I need is the board UI itself: square grid, standard piece set, legal move highlighting, and the usual reset/undo options. No AI engine, multiplayer, or online features are required right now—just a clean, functional board I can use as a foundation for future work.

Please deliver:
• A compiled Windows executable.
• Well-commented source code so I can extend the project later.
• A short read-me with build steps and any third-party libraries or assets credited.

If you already have experience with lightweight frameworks such as .NET (WinForms/WPF), JavaFX, or Python-Tkinter/PyQt, feel free to choose the one you know best; just keep the final install size modest and the setup process simple (no complex installers).
