.NET MAUI Barcode Scanner App -- 2
Budget: $15 – $25 AUD
We're looking for a .NET MAUI developer to build a cross-platform barcode scanner library and sample app for iOS and Android. The scanner must support UPC and EAN-13 barcodes with 2- or 5-digit supplementals (e.g., magazine barcodes). This project replaces an existing ZXing-based solution which doesn't meet performance standards.
Key Requirements:
1. Supported formats: UPC-A/E, EAN-13, with 2-digit OR 5-digit supplementals (never both).
2. Performance: Must scan full barcode (main + supplement) within 1 second (1000ms) of autofocus on 90%+ of valid codes.
3. Camera features:
-Continuous scan mode (no tap to scan).
-Adjustable zoom/lens (e.g., for iPhone Pro multi-lens).
-Accept barcodes shown sideways/upside-down (1-second rule not required for these cases).
4. Fallback logic: If RequireSupplemental = false, return main barcode even if supplement isn’t found.
5. No paid libraries: Only open-source or free components (e.g., MLKit, ZXing, Google Vision, etc.).
App Behavior:
1. Start camera → scan code → (if required) retry scanning supplement for up to 5 seconds or 20 passes.
2. On success, trigger OnBarcodeDetected event with result.
3. Simulate a call to LookupByBarcode() returning a status and mocked item list.
4. Show message: "Item not found" → Retry or Close if lookup fails.
5. UI flow will be handled in the ViewModel; you only need to expose clear scan events.
Deliverables:
1. A working .NET MAUI sample app (iOS + Android) demonstrating scan flow.
2. Scanning component/library source code.
3. Performance must meet all targets by day 16 after contract start — strict deadline.
Tech Notes:
1. Open to using native code via DependencyService or partial classes.
2. Suggested base: BarcodeScanner.Native.MAUI (client has tested and found it performant but lacking supplement detection).
3. Scanner should be modular and event-driven for easy integration.
