Fix ASP.NET Site on MyPassport

Job ID: 40476838

Budget: £100 – £150 GBP

The ASP.NET site I keep on a Western Digital “My Passport” portable drive has suddenly stopped loading; every request through IIS returns a 404 Not Found even though no code or configuration changes were made. Earlier this year everything ran perfectly, so I suspect a set of critical activation or configuration files vanished somewhere along the way.

Here is the current picture:
• The application targets ASP.NET Web Forms and is launched locally through IIS on Windows 10 and 11 machines.
• When I browse to the root URL I receive a 404, not the expected home page.
• I can share screenshots that show exactly how the pages should render.
• The same behaviour occurs on any PC I plug the drive into, so portability is essential to the fix.

What I need from you is a clear diagnosis and a working solution that lets the site run from the portable drive on multiple computers again. Whether that involves restoring missing activation/config files, adjusting IIS mappings, tweaking web.config, or scripting a lightweight setup routine, I’m open to the best path forward as long as the outcome is: the pages load, links resolve, and the drive remains truly plug-and-play.

Please let me know your approach and any quick checks you’d like me to perform. I can supply the project folder, IIS export, and additional logs as soon as we start.

Additionally, portability across multiple PCs and compatibility with both Windows 10 and 11 are critical requirements.
