Batch JPGs to Categorized PDFs
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
Task Instructions for Freelancer (JPG to Grouped PDFs)
Objective:
I will send you a download link to a folder containing many subfolders with hundreds of JPG files. Your task is to group the images into documents based on the file names, then generate correctly merged PDF files.
1. Download the Files
I will provide a download link (OneDrive, SharePoint, Google Drive, etc.).
Download the entire folder.
Do not change the folder structure.
2. Preserve the Folder Structure
Each subfolder contains several JPG files.
Do not move files between folders and do not rename the JPG files.
3. Group the JPG Files Based on Filename
Each document consists of multiple JPG pages.
Grouping rule:
Files belong to the same document if they share the same prefix before the last underscore.
Example:
SQ10133752_00001.jpg
SQ10133752_00002.jpg
SQ10133752_00003.jpg
These must become one multi‑page PDF named:
SQ10133752.pdf
Logic:
Document ID = everything before the last underscore
Page number = everything after the last underscore
Page numbers follow the pattern _00001, _00002, _00003, etc.
4. Create the PDF Files
For each group:
Sort the JPG files in natural numeric order (1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 11, etc.).
Combine them into one multi‑page PDF.
Name the PDF using the Document ID (e.g., SQ10133752.pdf).
Save the PDF in the same folder where the JPG files are stored.
Do not delete the JPG files.
5. Provide a Summary Report
After generating all PDFs, provide a summary listing:
Total number of PDFs created.
Each PDF with its document name and number of pages.
Any documents with missing pages or numbering gaps (e.g., jump from 00005 to 00007).
A simple text file or Excel sheet is sufficient.
Expected Output
All generated PDF files saved inside the original subfolders.
Original folder structure unchanged.
Summary report of all processed documents.
Required Skills
Experience working with large batches of images.
Ability to create multi‑page PDF documents.
Useful tools include:
Python scripts
ImageMagick
IrfanView
Adobe Acrobat automation
Any batch‑processing or scripting solution of your choice
