Eligibility Criteria for Technical Writer
Education Qualifications
• B.Tech/B.E. in Computer Science, IT, or Electronics or a degree in English/Journalism with a strong technical background.
• M.Tech or MBA (Technical Communication) will be a distinct advantage.
• Certification in Technical Writing like CPTC, IMCP, etc., is preferable.
Professional Experience
• 7–8 years in technical writing, preferably in OS/systems software or embedded systems domains.
• Prior experience in preparing technical reports, white papers or DPR’s is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with documentation norms of MeitY will be an added advantage.
Technical Knowledge
• Understanding of OS architecture: kernel, scheduler, memory management, process management, file systems, device drivers and storage architecture.
• Knowledge of OS standards like POSIX, RTOS concepts and hardware-software interfaces.
• Should possess strong knowledge to read and interpret architecture diagrams, flowcharts, and technical documentation.
Writing & Documentation Skills
• The candidate must be capable of producing structured and comprehensive technical documents.
• Should be able to translate complex system-level concepts into clear documentation maintaining clarity, precision, logical flow and a formal technical tone.
• Proficiency in writing: Project reports, SRS, SDD, test plans, user manuals and API docs.
• Knowledge in structured documentation frameworks: IEEE 830, IEEE 1016, MIL-STD-498
• Should be able to produce executive summaries, architecture descriptions, technical specifications, implementation strategies and security models.
• Ability to communicate complex information accurately ensuring it is easily understood by the intended audience.
