Create Comprehensive Internal Documentation

Job ID: 40348755

Budget: $250 – $750 USD

I’m ready to formalise everything that lives in our team’s collective memory into clear, consistent documents, and I need an experienced Technical writer to make it happen. We currently have zero written material, so you’ll be working from scratch, shaping the entire documentation framework rather than editing existing drafts.

Scope
Our priorities are three-fold:
• User manuals that guide internal staff through day-to-day use of our systems and tools
• Detailed internal process documentation, mapping each workflow step-by-step
• Concise product specifications that capture architecture, features, and configuration details for future development and maintenance

How we’ll work
I will provide subject-matter experts for interviews, sample data, and access to our platforms. You’ll distil that information into plain-language, version-controlled documents. Whether you prefer Confluence, Notion, or structured Markdown in a repo, I’m flexible as long as version history is maintained and exporting to PDF is straightforward.

Deliverables
1. Information architecture / documentation outline for sign-off
2. Drafts of each document section in agreed tool
3. Finalised, proofread documents packaged in both source and PDF formats
4. Quick reference template that we can reuse for future docs

Acceptance criteria
• Content is complete, accurate, and self-contained—no tribal knowledge required to follow a process
• Consistent voice, terminology, and formatting across all materials
• Screenshots, diagrams, and code snippets (where relevant) inserted and annotated
• Review feedback incorporated within two revision rounds

If creating order from chaos sounds like your specialty, I’d love to see examples of similar all-new documentation you’ve produced and hear how you’d approach our blank slate.
