Azure AVD Host Pool Setup
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
Description:
I’m looking for an experienced Azure Virtual Desktop engineer to stand up a pooled host pool for a small-to-medium team (~11–50 concurrent users). The environment must deliver consistent, high-performance Windows 11 desktops, leveraging FSLogix for profile management so users get a seamless experience across session hosts.
Scope of Work:
Design and deploy a pooled AVD host pool, including session hosts, application group(s), and workspace configuration.
Configure FSLogix profile containers on Azure Files or SMB shares, ensuring fast and consistent user profile experience across hosts.
Apply baseline security and performance policies:
Microsoft Defender updates and security baseline configurations
Autoscale and load balancing policies for session hosts
Basic GPO hardening for RDS/AVD workloads
Configure network settings to work with NAT Gateway and static public IP, ensuring stable connectivity to web applications with IP-dependent sessions.
Validate domain join using provided Entra ID or AD credentials, with proper Key Vault integration for admin account secrets.
Provide concise documentation and runbook to enable me to add/remove session hosts, scale the pool, or add users in the future.
Requirements:
Deployment can be performed via Azure Portal, ARM/Bicep templates, or PowerShell, as long as it is repeatable and maintainable.
Ensure FSLogix is installed via Intune and session hosts are ready for profile container usage.
Consider user scenarios with Mac and Windows clients, including cases where users cannot install the full Windows AVD client.
Provide recommendations for monitoring, scaling, and session timeout policies.
Deliverables:
Fully functional pooled host pool ready for Windows 11 logons.
Working FSLogix profile container configuration across session hosts.
A brief runbook/documentation detailing what was configured, including steps to expand the pool, add users, or troubleshoot connectivity and FSLogix profile issues.
Additional Notes:
Azure subscription, preferred VM image, network details (vNET, subnets, NAT Gateway, AD join credentials via Key Vault) will be provided.
Target environment must support multi-session pooled users with consistent, fast performance.
Candidates with experience managing Azure Virtual Desktop with Entra ID, Intune, FSLogix, and static IP/NAT Gateway networking are strongly preferred.
The hostpool structure should be cost efficient.
