Rackforest-to-Hetzner Cloud Migration with Docker CE

Objective:
Migrate my services currently running on RackForest to a single German Hetzner Cloud VPS, in Docker CE containers.

  •  2 Flutter applications running on 2 VPS
  •  2 WordPress sites (1 live, 1 in development)

2. Tasks to be performed

Phase Task Details
1. Planning Design Hetzner Cloud architecture SSH keys, CPU/RAM/SSD selection (e.g. CPX21+ or larger)
2. Server setup OS installation & basic hardening Ubuntu/Debian, SSH key auth, UFW firewall, fail2ban
3. Docker environment Install Docker CE & Docker Compose Latest stable version
4. Containerization Containerize apps and WP sites – 2 Flutter apps (Dockerfile + Compose)– 2 WP + MariaDB containers– .env files
5. Networking & security Reverse proxy & SSL Traefik or Nginx; Let’s Encrypt automation
6. DNS & domain Configure DNS zones and domains Point domains to the Hetzner Cloud VPS IP
7. Data migration Migrate databases and files WP dump import, media files transfer
8. Testing Functional and security validation HTTPS, API endpoints, permissions, logging
9. Documentation handover Detailed operational & troubleshooting guide Container start/stop, updates, basic troubleshooting
