Home Assistant Door Alert Automation
Budget: $750 – $1,500 CAD
I run Home Assistant in a Docker container and would like a concise, reliable setup that centres on my Z-Wave door sensors. The goal is simple: get instant security alerts when a door opens and a follow-up reminder if it stays open longer than a time I can set (for example, after five minutes).
Beyond the automations, I also want a clean Lovelace dashboard card that shows the live status of each door, highlights any that are currently open, and lets me adjust the “open too long” timer without diving into YAML every time.
Deliverables
• Automation YAML or Blueprint that reads the Z-Wave door sensors, fires a security alert on open, then triggers a secondary alert after the configurable delay.
• Lovelace dashboard card (or minimal view) that visually lists all door sensors and exposes the delay parameter.
• A brief README or comment block explaining where to drop the files in a Docker-based install and how to tweak entities or timing if I add more doors later.
If the above runs smoothly in my existing Docker stack and the alerts fire exactly as expected, I’ll consider the job complete.
