Revamp LMS for Stateless Deployment & Docker Compatibility
Budget: $1,500 – $3,000 USD
Topic:
Freelance Developer Needed to Modernize LMS Platform for Stateless Deployment and Docker Compatibility
Project Overview
We are looking for an experienced freelance developer with expertise in Docker, cloud-based application development, and stateless architecture to help modernize our Learning Management System (LMS). Our goal is to convert the existing LMS into a fully stateless, portable, and scalable application that can be seamlessly deployed using Docker and easily be version controlled using git.
The current LMS has an installation-based deployment model and relies on local file system storage, which we aim to eliminate. The new system should operate purely on environment variables, use external storage and databases, and be fully containerized for efficient deployment and scalability.
Key Responsibilities:
Remove Installation Feature & Licensing Checks
● Eliminate all installation steps and setup wizards.
● Remove licensing mechanisms that require manual verification.
● Ensure all required configurations are handled via environment variables or external config management tools.
Make the LMS Stateless
● Replace file-based data persistence with external databases and object storage (e.g., AWS S3, Google Cloud Storage).
● Use Redis or Memcached for session management instead of local files.
● Modify file upload handling to stream directly to cloud storage.
● Implement console-based logging (stdout/stderr) instead of file-based logging.
Implement Environment-based Configuration
● Ensure all configurations are managed via environment variables.
● Use secret management tools such as AWS Secrets Manager, HashiCorp Vault, or Docker Secrets.
● Support separate configurations for staging and production environments.
Ensure Full Docker Compatibility
● Develop a Dockerfile for the LMS and ensure containerized deployment.
● Ensure that no data is stored inside the container, relying on external databases and services.
● Redirect logs to Docker’s logging system or external services like ELK Stack or AWS CloudWatch.
● Support managed databases and cache services instead of running them inside the application container.
Ideal Candidate:
We are looking for a backend-focused developer with expertise in the following areas:
✅ A good understanding of docker and containerized application development.
✅ Proficiency in stateless microservices architecture.
✅ Hands-on experience with Redis, Memcached, or similar caching technologies.
✅ Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL, MySQL, or other relational databases.
✅ Experience with object storage solutions like AWS S3, Google Cloud Storage, or MinIO.
✅ Proficiency in backend development (Node.js, Python, or another backend language).
Additional Details
● This is a freelance/contract-based position.
● The project should be completed within 8 weeks.
● We are open to suggestions for the best tools and technologies to achieve our goals.
● The ideal freelancer should be available for weekly check-ins and status updates.
