Lead Engineer for Email Platform
Budget: ₹500,000 – ₹1,000,000 INR
Location: Remote / India
Type: Full-time (Contract or Founding Team Role)
Experience: 5–10 years (DevOps + Backend)
About the Role:
We are building a global-grade Email Service Provider (ESP) platform — reliable, secure, and optimized for inbox deliverability — to compete with the likes of MXroute and Inframail.
We’re looking for a hands-on Lead Engineer / Technical Architect to design, build, and launch the complete infrastructure and customer-facing platform. You’ll work closely with the founder to own the technical roadmap, choose the right stack, and lead all core engineering efforts from Day 1.
Responsibilities:
Architect and deploy a scalable, secure email hosting infrastructure using Postfix, Dovecot, Rspamd, and Docker (Mailcow or custom)
Set up and maintain SMTP, IMAP, and webmail (Roundcube or SoGo)
Configure and automate DNS record handling (SPF, DKIM, DMARC, rDNS, MTA-STS, BIMI)
Integrate API-based provisioning, billing (Stripe/PayPal), and user management
Build and manage backend systems (Node.js/PHP) and user dashboard (React preferred)
Optimize for deliverability, email queue management, spam filtering, bounce handling
Implement monitoring, logging, and backup systems (Grafana, Netdata, Prometheus, UptimeRobot)
Collaborate with UI/UX, frontend, and DevOps partners/freelancers
Ensure compliance with email laws (CAN-SPAM, GDPR) and build for high uptime (99.9%+)
Required Skills & Experience:
Deep experience with email infrastructure: Postfix, Dovecot, DNS configs, TLS/SSL, spam filters (Rspamd, ClamAV)
Solid background in DevOps and Linux systems administration
Proficiency in backend development (Node.js or PHP preferred)
Experience working with Docker, Mailcow, or similar stacks
Familiarity with DNS APIs (Cloudflare preferred) and domain verification logic
Strong grasp of email deliverability practices and server hardening
Experience building secure, multi-tenant SaaS platforms
Knowledge of monitoring, logging, and incident response
Ideal Candidate:
Has built or contributed to email platforms, ESPs, or similar infrastructure-heavy products
Thrives in early-stage product development with minimal hand-holding
Comfortable making architectural decisions and owning full-stack technical delivery
Can grow into a CTO-level leadership role if the product succeeds
Nice-to-Have:
Experience with Mailcow, iRedMail, or Haraka
Prior work with SMTP relay APIs (Mailgun, Postmark, SES)
Understanding of email compliance, legal frameworks
Background in startup environments or bootstrapped SaaS
