Whimsical Nativity Spider Illustrations

I’m finalising a children’s Christmas story told entirely from the corner of the stable, where a gentle little spider observes the first Christmas. I need 5–10 full-colour illustrations that feel unmistakably whimsical while still carrying the quiet sadness of a tiny creature who sheds a few tender tears as the night unfolds.

The spider must remain soft, sympathetic and expressive—its web framing key moments of the Nativity (Mary and Joseph’s arrival, the manger scene, visiting shepherds, perhaps an angelic glow). Think cosy lighting, textured brushwork, and compositions that place the viewer high in the rafters beside our eight-legged narrator.

Deliverables
• Character reference sheet for the spider (gesture, colour palette, facial emotions)
• 5–10 scene illustrations, print-ready at 300 dpi CMYK, sized for a standard 8×10″ spread (bleed included)
• Layered source files (PSD, Procreate, or vector) so my designer can adjust text placement later
• One round of revisions on each piece to fine-tune mood and expression

I’m aiming for warm, storybook whimsy—no harsh lines or overly cartoonish exaggeration—just enough expressiveness to let children feel both wonder and a gentle tinge of sadness.
