Realistic 1940s Children’s Book Illustrations

I’m preparing a children’s story that unfolds in the 1940s and need a set of realistic, softly lit illustrations that gently carry the emotion of each scene. I would like the artwork created digitally—think painterly strokes, subdued palettes, and period-accurate details that make the era feel authentic while still enchanting young readers.

Scope
• Character studies for the two main children and key supporting adults
• Full-page and spot illustrations for 12 story spreads (RGB, 300 dpi, print-ready)
• A wraparound cover design that matches the interior mood
• Layered source files so my designer can adjust text placement later

Workflow
1. Rough composition thumbnails for approval
2. Color keys and refined sketches (digital)
3. Final rendered illustrations, delivered in organized folders

What to send with your bid
• Past work that shows realistic or period illustrations, preferably for children’s books
• A short note on your digital tools or brushes of choice (Photoshop, Procreate, Clip Studio, etc.)
• An estimated timeline for each milestone
