Illustrator Needed for Children's Book Series
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
Children’s Book Illustrator Wanted — Ongoing Series with Recurring Characters
I’m looking for an illustrator to bring the first two books of a growing children’s picture-book series to life.
The stories follow a diverse, imaginative group of kids (ages 8–10) and their playful AI friend as they explore creativity, empathy, and curiosity. The tone is warm, funny, and modern — think Pixar charm meets Highlights Magazine heart.
This project will begin with two books and expand into an ongoing series with the same characters and cohesive visual world.
⸻
Budget (Please Read First)
The total budget is $100 or less per book, including cover, full-page, and spot illustrations (about 25–30 total per book).
I know this is a small budget and want to be transparent from the start.
To apply, please begin your message with this line:
“I understand and accept the $100-per-book budget.”
Applications that don’t include this sentence will not be considered. I’m looking for someone who values honesty, enjoys collaboration, and may want to grow with the series as it develops.
⸻
What You’ll Receive
• Complete character descriptions and design notes for each main character (Lucy, Drew, Jess, Li, and AI Pal)
• Clear direction and open creative dialogue
• Full illustrator and design credit inside each book and on promotional materials
• Ongoing collaboration opportunities as the series expands
⸻
What I Need
• Consistent, expressive characters across all books
• Bright, kid-friendly art suitable for 8.5×8.5 or 8×10 format
• Digital files ready for Amazon KDP print and Kindle
• Ability to add final text to pages (using fonts I approve or provide) — or willingness to coordinate with my layout designer
• Ethical use of AI tools is fine if the finished work feels human, warm, and cohesive
⸻
How to Apply
Please include:
• 3–5 sample illustrations or portfolio link
• A short note about your creative process and turnaround time
• Confirmation that you’ve read and accepted the budget
