Devops engineer - AWS CI/CD Pipeline Expert

We are a growing health-tech startup seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer (Consultant) to own and evolve our AWS infrastructure in a HIPAA-compliant environment.

This role is suited for a seasoned DevOps professional who operates comfortably at both strategic and hands-on levels — someone who can design systems, make architecture decisions, and implement them independently in a lean startup context.

What You’ll Own
• End-to-end ownership of AWS cloud infrastructure for a production healthcare platform
• Architecture, implementation, and continuous improvement of HIPAA-compliant security controls
• Design and maintenance of scalable, secure, and cost-efficient cloud architecture
• Definition and implementation of Infrastructure as Code standards (Terraform / CloudFormation)
• Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines to support rapid, reliable releases
• Establish monitoring, alerting, logging, and incident response practices
• Partner with engineering leadership on reliability, scalability, and risk management
• Lead infrastructure readiness for audits, security reviews, and compliance assessments
• Proactively identify technical debt, risks, and improvement opportunities

Required Expertise
• 6+ years of experience in DevOps / Cloud / Platform Engineering
• Deep, hands-on expertise with AWS (VPC, IAM, EC2, RDS, S3, CloudWatch, networking, security)
• Demonstrated experience running HIPAA-compliant production systems
• Strong background in cloud security architecture (encryption, IAM, least privilege, audit logging)
• Extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code
• Proven experience designing and operating CI/CD pipelines at scale
• Strong Linux systems and troubleshooting skills
• Experience with containerized workloads (Docker, ECS/EKS, Kubernetes preferred)
• Ability to work independently and make high-quality architectural decisions

• Prior experience as a lead DevOps engineer or solo infrastructure owner
• Experience working with startups or early-stage products
• Familiarity with SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar frameworks
• Experience advising teams on cloud cost optimization
• Scripting and automation expertise (Python, Bash, etc.)

Freelancer must be ready to collaborate with our stakeholders for a 2-3 weeks of engagement.
