Contract Engagement (3-6 months)

We are seeking an experienced AWS Cloud Architect to lead the design and execution of a cloud migration from AWS Commercial to AWS GovCloud. The migration scope includes more than 150 EC2 instances with associated volumes, snapshots, and AMIs across development, testing, and customer support environments. This engagement is driven by the CMMC Level 2 compliance initiative and requires hands-on GovCloud expertise from day one.
What You'll Do
- Design and build the GovCloud landing zone from scratch, including VPCs, IAM structure, networking, and security baselines
- Develop a comprehensive migration runbook covering sequencing, procedures, rollback plans, and validation checklists for EC2 instances
- Define and document the migration approach for associated EBS volumes, snapshots, and AMIs
- Advise on CMMC Level 2 technical controls and ensure the GovCloud architecture satisfies compliance requirements
- Coordinate with DevOps engineers and the client's internal team throughout migration phases
- Oversee post-migration validation and provide technical sign-off on environment readiness
- Recreate CloudWatch monitoring and Lambda automation in the new environment
Required qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on AWS architecture experience
- Demonstrated experience with AWS GovCloud
- Prior involvement in at least one large-scale EC2 migration (100+ instances)
- Strong understanding of AWS networking: VPCs, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, security groups
- Familiarity with CMMC Level 2 or NIST 800-171 technical requirements
- Experience designing AWS landing zones, ideally using AWS Control Tower or equivalent
- Ability to produce clear, detailed technical documentation for non-technical audiences
