Windows Barcode Time Tracker
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
I need a small Windows 11 desktop application that helps me control when people arrive and leave by simply scanning a barcode. The app will be used by both Administrators and Employees:
• Administrators must have a secure area where they can create a unique barcode for each destination or person, manage or delete existing codes, adjust any employee’s in-or-out time manually, and pull clean, printable reports that summarise all timestamps for a chosen period.
• On the employee side, the workflow is straightforward: they scan their code, the program instantly prints their name and the exact time, and records whether it is an entry or an exit. Nothing else should be shown to them.
Core requirements
– Compatible installer for Windows 11 (no external server needed; everything local).
– Fast barcode recognition through a standard USB scanner.
– Automatic printout after every successful scan showing name and time.
– Separate “admin” login or pin-protected screen with barcode management, manual time editing, and report generation in PDF or Excel.
– Clear database or file structure so I can back up the data easily.
Acceptance
I will consider the project complete when I can:
1. Install the software on a fresh Windows 11 machine,
2. Add a new user/destination, generate its barcode, and print it,
3. Scan that barcode twice (in and out) and see both entries with correct timestamps,
4. Override one of those times manually, and
5. Export a report that reflects the change.
Please build with a modern language you are comfortable maintaining (C#, Python with GUI library, Electron, etc.). Source code and brief setup notes are part of the deliverable.
