Desktop App to Capture and Label Screen Areas from Video Feed
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
We're looking for an experienced desktop application developer to build a tool that interacts with video capture devices (like webcams or Elgato capture cards). The goal is to allow the user to select a device, view its video feed in real-time, define and label specific screen areas, and periodically capture screenshots of those areas.
Key Features Required:
- Device Selection on Startup:
When the app launches, the user should be prompted to select a video capture device from a list of available sources (e.g., webcam, HDMI capture device like Elgato).
- Real-Time Video Feed Display:
After device selection, the application should display the video feed in real time within the app window.
- Interactive Screen Area Selection and Labeling:
The user must be able to:
- Click and drag to define rectangular areas (regions of interest) on top of the video feed.
Assign a custom label to each selected area (e.g., "Health Bar", "Chat Box").
- Automated Screenshot Capture Process:
After selecting and labeling the areas, the user clicks a “Start” button.
The app will begin taking screenshots of each labeled area every 1 second, saving them locally with their respective label as the filename (e.g., Health_Bar_001.png, Chat_Box_001.png, etc.).
This continues until the user clicks a “Stop” button to end the capture process.
Screenshots should be stored in a user-defined directory.
Note: In a future phase, these screenshots will be sent to a remote service over the internet. This current version should be built with extensibility in mind.
Deliverables:
1. Fully working desktop application (Windows preferred; cross-platform is a bonus).
2. Source code with clear structure and inline comments.
3. A demo video showing all core functionality working correctly.
4. A walkthrough explaining how the code is organized and how it works.
Additional Notes:
- I will provide more technical details or UI/UX clarifications as needed during development.
- Use well-supported libraries for video and GUI handling.
Skills Required:
- Desktop application development (Kotlin, Java, Python, C++, or similar).
- Familiarity with video capture libraries/APIs.
- Solid grasp of UI/UX for interactive components.
- Clean, well-documented coding practices.
To Apply please include:
- Relevant past projects (especially those involving video, capture devices, or GUI tools).
- Your preferred tech stack for this task.
- Any questions or suggestions you have for improving or implementing this project.
