Google Tag Manager + GA4 Expert for Full E-commerce Tracking Setup Project Overview
Budget: $15 – $25 USD
We’re looking for an experienced Google Tag Manager (GTM) and Google Analytics 4 (GA4) specialist to complete the tracking setup for our e-commerce website.
The goal is to have a bullet-proof data layer + event tracking system that covers the entire user journey — from first visit to purchase — and provides clear conversion insights and drop-off points.
An account with GTM and GA4 access will be provided.
Current State:
- GTM container is already installed and connected on the live site.
- DataLayer is implemented and pushes multiple custom events (e.g. product_click_from_slider, add_to_cart, etc.).
- Some variables and triggers exist but are not yet fully connected to GA4.
Your Tasks:
- Review and optimize the existing GTM setup (tags, triggers, variables).
- Complete the GA4 configuration and event mappings.
- Set up all relevant e-commerce and engagement events, such as:
-- view_item_list
-- select_item (product click)
-- view_item
-- add_to_cart
-- remove_from_cart
-- begin_checkout
-- add_payment_info
-- add_shipping_info
-- purchase
-- Form submissions, outbound clicks, and scroll depth
- Implement conversion tracking for checkout and thank-you pages.
- Add drop-off and funnel tracking (where users abandon the process).
- Configure custom parameters (e.g., product category, slider source, page type).
- Enable consent mode v2 and ensure proper behaviour with the site’s cookie banner (EU compliance, the banner exists already).
- Verify all events in DebugView and Realtime reports.
- Create a brief documentation on how to add new events or modify existing ones.
- Connect to Adwords to start running campaigns.
Deliverable:
- Fully functional GA4 tracking via GTM, aligned with Google’s recommended e-commerce schema.
- Verified data flow from GTM → GA4 (all events firing correctly).
- List of tracked events and parameters.
- Optional: simple dashboard or GA4 Exploration template for conversions and funnels.
Requirements:
- Proven experience with Google Tag Manager, GA4, and Enhanced E-commerce implementations.
- Ability to debug and test DataLayer pushes.
- Understanding of consent mode and cookie compliance.
- Clear documentation and communication in English or German.
Bonus:
- Experience with WooCommerce or headless setups (WordPress + Nuxt/Vue frontend).
- Familiarity with server-side tagging or GA4 BigQuery exports.
Important:
This is not just a tag placement job — we need a complete, reliable analytics foundation that can be extended in the future.
More events may be added later by the developer as we refine the user journey and marketing attribution.
