Access Database Migration to Xojo
Budget: £3,000 – £5,000 GBP
We are seeking an experienced professional who can convert an existing, in-use Access database to Xojo.
Primary Database Functions:
- The Access database is primarily used for Customer Relationship Management and Job Management and Scheduling.
- This involves data entry, storage, retrieval, add/change/delete functionalities, raising of documents, scheduling and extensive reporting.
- It is a multi-user system.
- It is used to look up and enter data during telephone conversations with clients, so 100% access, and speed and accuracy in finding relevant information, are of the essence.
Database Specification:
The relational database is split into a front end and a backend:
The Back-end has 24 tables.
The largest three related tables currently have approximately 85,000, 60,000 and 30,000 records and are constantly growing.
The first and most urgent phase is to transfer the data tables with their relational linkages to a fast, cloud-based database system which has the potential to provide two-way communication with other 'modern' cloud-based applications, for example accounting and marketing. It is a requirement at this stage that it continues to work with the existing Access front-end (see below), although it is acknowledged that it might be necessary as part of this phase to migrate some queries to the new cloud system, in order to maintain 'instant' responses for users working over the internet. The system will be in full use throughout the migration and no down-time is acceptable.
The front-end has approximately 100 Queries, 55 Forms and 65 Reports.
The second phase is to replicate all Access database functionality and features on the Xojo platform. No removals or additions are required for this phase. Forms should either remain the same, or provide equivalent functionality with improved, up-to-date user interfaces.
The third phase is to provide additional functionality both within the database and in terms of interfaces with other systems. This cannot be specified in any detail yet, although discussions of the technical possibilities would be useful.
Essential candidate skills:
- High proficiency in MS Access and Xojo software.
- Problem-solving skills to deal with the inevitable technical difficulties which arise when migrating
from one system to another.
- Proven competency in testing, parallel running, beta-testing and bug-fixing.
- A highly professional approach to specifcation, quotation, time-management and communication.
Desirable candidate experience:
- CRM and Job Management databases.
